Position Summary

The PCB Test and Repair Technician is critical in ensuring the quality and functionality of printed circuit boards used in electronic assemblies. This position is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing PCBs down to the component level, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and techniques. Working closely with Test and Manufacturing Engineering teams, the technician will support ongoing production and new product introductions by identifying failure trends, implementing corrective actions, and training operators on proper testing and troubleshooting methods. This role requires a strong technical background in electronics, hands-on experience with SMT rework to IPC standards, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The PCB Electronics Tech will report to the Manufacturing Manager.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot printed circuit boards (PCBs) down to the component level.

  • Replace both surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole components as needed.

  • Set up and operate various test equipment, including automatic/manual, in-circuit, functional, and bench testing systems.

  • Identify and track PCB failure trends, and collaborate with Test and Manufacturing Engineering teams to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Support the transition of new products into production in coordination with engineering teams.

  • Provide training to operators on test procedures and troubleshooting techniques to minimize PCB rejections.

  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.



Required Education and Experience

  • Strong ability to interpret PCB schematics, assembly drawings, test procedures, and work instructions.

  • Proficient in electronic circuit troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other diagnostic tools.

  • Demonstrated expertise in SMT rework and repair to IPC standards.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail, ability to follow instructions, and capability to work independently or in a team environment.

  • Associate’s Degree in Electronics (A.S.E.E.) and a minimum of 2 years’ experience troubleshooting microprocessor-controlled circuits to the component level or 10 years of equivalent hands-on experience in a similar role.

  • IPC Certification is required.
