Davisware and Kitchen Brains Partner to Put Service of Appliances on Internet of Things (IoT) – 5/10/2016

Integration between Davisware GlobalEdge and Kitchen Brains SCK® Genius Suite automates restaurant appliance service

STRATFORD, Conn.-Davisware, a leading provider of integrated software solutions for managing service-oriented businesses, has partnered with Kitchen Brains to bring its Davisware GlobalEdge and Global Warranty applications together with Kitchen Brains SCK® Genius Suite. The Kitchen Brains Genius Suite connects restaurant appliances to the cloud for remote monitoring while real-time performance data is being recorded. Davisware provides powerful business solutions for service agents, warranty solutions for manufacturers, and an E-Commerce and Documentation Library that connects the service agents and manufacturers.

The integration will allow for an automated notification and dispatch of a service provider based on appliance performance information, gathered through the Kitchen Brains SCK IoT platform. The SCK Genius Suite is an IoT platform that allows existing restaurant equipment to connect to the cloud and be remotely monitored and perform programming updates through existing communication ports that are presently dormant in the appliance. The Kitchen Brains SCK Genius Suite, a collection of technologies that seamlessly connect front and back-of-house restaurant systems with all aspects of food production, food safety and facility management, are designed to create a truly intelligent commercial kitchen. SCK Quality Production Manager (QPM) monitors real-time and historical sales to dynamically coach the kitchen crew on what to cook, when to cook, how much to cook and when to discard expired product. SCK Food Safety Manager (FSM) brings paperless checklists and automated temperature monitoring to HACCP compliance.

By connecting these Kitchen Brains SCK technologies with the Davisware software applications, intelligent asset management and service dispatch functionality has become possible. Scheduling, dispatching, maintaining work history, and updating equipment on an automated basis are now possible. Restaurants receive reduced service response time to equipment issues and enjoy diminished preventative maintenance costs.

The Kitchen Brains SCK technology automatically captures appliance faults and performance data. The appliance data is analyzed by the SCK Genius Suite IoT software and generates a service alert that is automatically received by Davisware’s GlobalEdge platform. Since the Kitchen Brains and Davisware platforms are linked, the service alert contains key information to identify the location, brand, model, serial number, and performance metrics, resulting in the service technician arriving prepared for a “first trip fix.” Many times the service provider will notify the restaurant of an existing issue before they are aware of the equipment condition. Now service agents and manufacturers covered by the Davisware applications can leverage the real-time monitoring capabilities of the Kitchen Brains Genius Suite.

The partnership applications extend not only to the newest equipment, but is also adaptable to millions of existing major manufacturer brand equipment in restaurants today. Existing equipment can be connected to the system using the Kitchen Brains SCK Open Link module, which will be available later this year. SCK Open Link is an affordable module which when fitted to existing equipment, brings serial communication ports or USB interfaces into the IoT universe.

“Davisware is a best-of-breed solution for service management. Creating interoperability between Davisware and the SCK IoT platform raises the bar in service execution to a level only dreamed about before today,” said Mario Ceste, CEO at Kitchen Brains. “Both Davisware and Kitchen Brains apply their systems across the landscape of appliance manufacturers and service providers. This broad footprint means most every restaurant is currently adaptable and able to take advantage of this breakthrough, leveraging the millions of IoT capable control devices we have installed in restaurant appliances during the last twenty years.”

“This technology is something that has been on the horizon for a very long time. For the first time ever, we have a partner who brings to the table equipment technology solutions that make this partnership possible. Servicers now have a new tool to provide real value and increased equipment performance that has not been previously available,” said Jennifer Davis, President at Davisware. “This is a major advancement for our Commercial Foodservice Equipment Service Agents (CFESA) members who have been looking for this opportunity for many years.”

Kitchen Brains CEO Speaks on the Internet of Things in Commercial Kitchens at Restaurant Leadership Conference in Scottsdale, Arizona – 4/4/2016

STRATFORD, Conn.-Mario Ceste, Kitchen Brains CEO, is one of seven selected participants to give presentations on incorporating IoT technologies at the Innovation Forum at the annual Restaurant Leadership Conference (RLC) in Scottsdale, Arizona on April 6th.

Ceste will join a handful of the brightest professionals in foodservice to present the latest insights and opportunities available to the industry, speaking specifically on creating intelligent kitchens which can think for themselves through the application of IoT technologies.

The title of Ceste’s presentation will be “Bringing IoT to Foodservice: Improving Operating Efficiencies & Execution While Giving Access to KPIs Anywhere at Anytime.” He will elaborate on IoT, the Internet of Things, and explain how it is revolutionizing the foodservice industry.

“We are impacted each day in our personal lives by IoT technology. The opportunities for commercial uses particularly in foodservice operations is tremendous. More importantly many of the key elements are already installed in these kitchens.”, says Mr. Ceste. Ceste’s goal is to show ways to benefit from this technology and get ahead of the curve, by leveraging existing equipment. The ability to provide a mutual link between not only the devices, but also their data, is central to the monitoring, data collecting, and controlling of foodservice operations required in the industry. “Restaurant operations can reduce energy costs, increase labor productivity, and simplify HACCP reporting by simply allowing their current “smart” appliances to interact with tablets, and smartphones. IoT technology can help restaurants deliver real-time data to and from the cloud and monitor the execution anytime from anywhere”, continues Mr. Ceste. IoT supplies a restaurant with a paperless solution for monitoring daily responsibilities and collecting critical food temperatures. IoT creates a closed loop system with task alerts, and increasing managerial overall efficiency in a restaurant. The overall benefits include significant savings, ensuring precise execution to the gold standard, more integrity in the data collected, and improved levels of customer satisfaction.

Mario Ceste is the CEO of Kitchen Brains, a company that prides itself on globally helping restaurants deliver hot fresh, available food. With several patents in the application of IoT technology for restaurant operations and an impressive nineteen patents in appliance control technology, Ceste’s years of experience and expertise is evident when he speaks. He is a Certified Food Service Professional (CFSP) and he has chaired an industry committee on the interoperability of data across commercial foodservice appliances, something critical to the application IoT technologies. Ceste hopes more restaurants will choose to “Put a Genius on the Menu” to reduce labor, training, and operational costs, while the highest standards for food safety and product quality are continually met. The Kitchen Brains SCK® Food Safety Manager is a recipient of the 2016 Kitchen Innovations® Award, presented by the National Restaurant Association Restaurant, Hotel-Motel Show®. Choose #teamGENIUS! HotSchedules and Kitchen Brains Partner to Put Appliances on Internet of Things (IoT)- 3/30/2016

Integration between the Kitchen Brains SCK® Quality Production Manager (QPM) and the HotSchedules IoT Platform will eliminate IT barriers and ensure that food is hot, fresh and available.

STRATFORD, Conn. – March 30, 2016 – HotSchedules®, a leading provider of cloud-based mobile technology for the restaurant and hospitality industries, has partnered with Kitchen Brains to bring its SCK® Quality Production Manager (QPM) together with  the HotSchedules IoT Platform. Kitchen Brains QPM application integrates cooking platforms such as fryers and ovens with real-time point-of-sale (POS) data. The integration plans, directs, and reports cooking instructions to ensure that food is always hot, fresh and available for guests. The IoT Platform will eliminate the complexity and costs of connecting QPM to other restaurant technologies, especially POS systems.
QPM is part the Kitchen Brains Genius Suite, a collection of technologies that seamlessly connect front and back-of-house restaurant systems with all aspects of food production and facility management, creating a truly intelligent commercial kitchen. QPM monitors real-time and historical sales to dynamically coach the kitchen crew on what to cook, when to cook it, how much to cook and when to discard expired product. Typically, QPM increases a restaurant’s fresh product scores from 50%-60% to 95% and product availability from 60%-70% to above 90%. Because product is tracked from cook to holding to waste, QPM can calculate inventory changes and quality metrics by product and by shift.
By connecting Kitchen Brains QPM with the HotSchedules IoT platform, POS solutions and cooking equipment will work seamlessly eliminating traditional API complexities while allowing restaurants to maximize their existing IT investments. Restaurants will be able increase speed-of-service, improve food quality and reduce wastage while cutting IT costs.
The HotSchedules IoT Platform will collect QPM’s data on food quality, wastage, inventory consumption, speed of service and savings. From the cloud, this data can be delivered to any analytics solution including HotSchedules Reveal, an app that provides actionable insights for hospitality businesses on a smartphone, tablet or browser. The data can also be linked to HotSchedules Inventory, a mobile application that enables restaurants to efficiently track and manage inventory and queue orders for products that are below ideal quantities.
Whereas restaurants must normally create one-to-one integrations between each application and technology they use, the IoT Platform becomes a hub for all integrations. In other words, if 10 restaurant technologies would normally call for 45 separate integrations, the HotSchedules IoT Platform reduces that number to just 10. If one technology is replaced (e.g. a new POS system or fryer), it can be connected to the IoT Platform without affecting the other integrations. Thus, restaurants can evolve their technology and dining experience without the usual IT hassles.
In addition, developers can build new integrations and applications for the HotSchedules IoT Platform. Because the platform centralizes all in-store, near-store and above-store data in the cloud, any HotSchedules app or third-party app connected to the platform can access that data. This enables developers to create applications much faster and less expensively than normal.
“No matter what forecasting software you use, real-time sales data is the key to validating your predictions and adapting to new conditions. Real-time sales data is essential for QPM to deliver precise production management.  That is why partnering with HotSchedules will be valuable to our customers,” said Mario Ceste, CEO at Kitchen Brains. “The IoT Platform ensures that you can connect QPM with any POS system, analytics solution or forecasting software. It’s a cost-efficient and innovative approach to integrating smart kitchen technologies and leveraging the millions of IoT capable devices we have installed in restaurant appliances during the last twenty-years.”
“Many of our customers use Kitchen Brains QPM to serve consistent, quality food across thousands of global locations. This partnership will help them optimize QPM no matter what other technology vendors are used in conjunction,” said Anthony Lye, CEO at HotSchedules. “This is an obvious win for both companies and our customers.”

Kitchen Brains Partners With Canvas – 05/05/2015

Paperless Food Safety Manager Introduced for Foodservice Industry.
Stratford, CT – Kitchen Brains, the global leader in timers, controls and SaaS solutions for the commercial kitchen/foodservice industry, has partnered with Canvas to create the SCK Food Safety Manager application, FSM Easy, which eliminates paper HACCP forms and checklists. It is the simplest, remote monitoring solution for automating food safety temperature tracking and manual checklists. SCK Food Safety Manager (FSM) is one of Kitchen Brains growing family of cloud-based solutions for foodservice operators. Canvas is a cloud-based software service that enables businesses to replace expensive and inefficient paper forms with powerful mobile apps for their smartphones and tablets. Kitchen Brains will be demonstrating this application along with their other Food Safety Manager products and Genius Suite of SaaS Apps at NRA 2015, the National Restaurant Association Show, from May 16th-19th in Chicago.
“Kitchen Brains searched for a mobile solutions partner and found Canvas. We were immediately drawn to the fact that Canvas is best in breed in bringing paperless checklists to a wide range of industries using mobile devices and tablets. More importantly, they helped us develop and deploy a custom app which integrates with our mySCK portal that is specifically designed to simplify food safety recordkeeping in commercial kitchens,” said Mario Ceste, CEO of Kitchen Brains.
“Since Canvas is built on an open API, all of the data collected flows securely into our cloud-based software, which is then stored in the Kitchen Brains mySCK.net portal. This allows access to completed checklists anywhere, anytime,” said Michael Benedict, vice president of the of Canvas Application Store.
With FSM Easy, Kitchen Brains saw an opportunity to simplify and mobilize one of the most basic, but critical tests done throughout the day in a kitchen, taking the temperature of cooked food. This eliminates the need to record the kitchen data on cumbersome paper forms. State-of-the-art food safety is made possible with FSM.
One of the most crucial elements to any commercial kitchen is the ability to safely cook, store, and serve quality food at precise temperatures. Food Safety Manager is a total solution for recording, collecting, and analyzing the data needed to run a successful kitchen. The FSM solution from Kitchen Brains is easy to use and available now on the Canvas Application Store. Setting up FSM Easy is as simple as syncing your device to the MySCK portal. “SCK Food Safety Manager (FSM) is the simplest paperless solution on the market for HACCP compliance,” said Mario Ceste, newly appointed CEO of Kitchen Brains. “With FSM, a proprietary hand-held is not required because it will operate from standard tablets or smartphones. You can wirelessly sense, collect and record critical data points related to your business 24/7.  The Food Safety Manager eliminates paper HACCP forms while providing accurate, detailed data and checklists anywhere and at anytime. We are proud to announce that Sarah Greenberg, in our Sales Operations Group (SOG), has won the Innovations Award for her project.

Sarah said, “I liked how this program taught me how to build up my team as a leader as opposed to just a manager, and how my role as a leader impacts more than myself, but my team and entire company.”

What Makes a Great Manager?

What Makes a Great Manager?

Are they management material? This is a crucial question every company should ask themselves as they are in the process of promoting individuals to manage. According to Dale Carnegie Training, a development organization that provides workplace training, there are many managers out there, but few who practice key qualities to ensure success. Dale Carnegie Leadership Training for Managers insists management should follow the IMap Process, a five step process that is centered on workforce training. The five I’s are intent, inquire, involve, innovate, and impact.

When it comes to your company’s strategic vision the dreary “as is” should always be the “should be.” Effective managers should always strive to improve the company by asking themselves how it should be improved as opposed to how it is. Dale Carnegie defines this as intent. Managers should also schedule strategic conversations with their employees to inquire, and better understand where they are coming from. Managers should know where the operation is today, where they want it to go, and what needs to change to get there. Managers should involve all aspects of their team to determine the alignment around the vision, competency gaps that need to be closed, and attitudes that challenge change. Managers must be creative and constantly innovating. Innovate plans that support your strategic intent, providing measurable results. Managers must think of ways to blend competency development with corporate initiatives. Most importantly, managers need to impact their employees and instill long-term behavioral change and gain emotional and intellectual engagement with corporate objectives.

While most managers have landed a higher position by having the right skill set or a likable personality, it doesn’t always mean they’re the right person for the job. Not to say this practice doesn’t work, but not every good team player can be a good manager. The good news is, management can be trained. Proper managerial training helps managers develop specific skills to help their employees, benefitting everyone in a company.

Dale Carnegie Training was founded by bestselling American author, Dale Carnegie. Developing many famous courses in self-improvement, salesmanship, corporate training, public speaking, and interpersonal skills, Dale Carnegie’s background has helped him to craft the perfect course. The Dale Carnegie Training Leadership for Managers Program, a program that combines these key elements.

Here, at Kitchen Brains, we strive to maintain the very best work environment for our team. Which is why Kitchen Brains is hosting the Dale Carnegie Training for Managers Program this fall. Through this program, Kitchen Brains as well as other local business managers will learn how to become better leaders. They will learn to create strategies, explore methods, and implement plans that will create breakthroughs within various departments and in turn, their companies.

Kitchen Brains is proud to have Arnold Zimmerman, Kelly Johnston, Sarah Greenberg, and Tom Egan attending the Dale Carnegie Training for Managers Program. We are excited to see how this program will influence these four ambitious individuals, and how they will implement new tactics in their managerial styles to ensure team success. Kitchen Brains mission is to enhance our internal functionality so we can continue to provide our customers with the best food safety solutions in the foodservice industry.

11/18/16 – Why Food Safety is a Win-Win-Win

Every food establishment has different uses, processes, and styles of serving food, but the overall issues and key principles of food safety remain the same. There are several steps and guidelines that accompany practicing proper food safety, which is why it is so important that not only our food establishments, but consumers are aware of appropriate food safety practices.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), each year, roughly one in six Americans get sick from foodborne diseases. Millions of illnesses in the United States are attributed to contaminated foods. In the foodservice industry, food safety plays the most important part in assuring customer satisfaction which is why Kitchen Brains focuses so deeply on food safety. Foodborne illnesses are a major threat in the industry. These illnesses tend to fly under the radar, because it is difficult to trace back to the cause. There are numerous steps that can impact the safety of food, and it is near impossible to keep up with without proper equipment, software, and most importantly, education. Ranging from improper handing to faulty preparation and storage practices, it is too easy for something to go unnoticed. However, with the proper equipment, technology, and education food safety can be simple and rather effortless, guaranteeing fresh product.

For over 45 years, Kitchen Brains has specialized in innovative cloud-based software and equipment that bolster food safety and efficiently within the foodservice industry. We believe foodborne illnesses are a serious public health concern and taking the appropriate measures to eliminate illness is something we highly value. Most of our employees have worked in commercial kitchens, many of them are ServSafe® certified, and several of our staff are Certified Food Service Professionals (CFSP). The foodservice industry is our passion being the only industry we serve, so we share the many concerns the managers of commercial kitchens face. Including but not limited to maintaining food temperatures, hygiene, and consistently producing safe, quality, and delicious food.

When it comes down to it, food safety is important because the public receives safe food, employees receive career advancements, and operators receive higher productivity, increase in savings, employee retention, and praise from the community. Kitchen Brains believes food safety is a win-win-win.

8/18/2016 – IoT: Foodservice Industry Meets Technology

IoT Infographic Image
The creation of intelligent kitchens made with Internet of Things (IoT) technologies simplifies operations and HACCP requirements. Restaurant operations can reduce energy costs, increase labor productivity, and simplify HACCP reporting by simply allowing their current “smart” appliances to interact with tablets, and smartphones. IoT technology helps restaurants deliver real-time data to monitor the execution anytime from anywhere. In an increasingly technological world, many restaurants have reckoned the number of potential IoT applications. Peter Cryan, Director of Equipment, R&D, and new technology at Arby’s, notes, “If companies aren’t looking at IoT today, they are really behind because it is not just here to stay, it is here to build off of.” See how Arby’s has begun to implement IoT: http://bit.ly/2aMg01T .

03/06/2016- Does adding ‘healthy’ menu items make financial sense?

We’ve seen a lot of news in recent months from restaurant chains announcing plans to incorporate “healthier” ingredients, such as cage-free eggs or hormone-free chicken, or to emphasize healthful menu options. But before you decide to make a big deal out of “healthy” ingredients or menu items, you need to have a deep understanding of whether this is something your customers are demanding, and, if so, how much they’re willing to pay to make a health-conscious buying decision. 02/06/2015 – Special Report: Smart Machines

Operators invest in efficient, multitasking equipment to cut costs, boost sales.
Achieving efficiencies of all sorts is the name of the game when it comes to today’s hot restaurant equipment.
From heat-reclaiming dishwashers to so-called smart kitchens and voice-recognition technology, restaurateurs are looking for equipment that reduces waste, saves money, speeds operations, increases accuracy, eliminates guesswork and opens the door to new opportunities.
